Default Mental Activity is a certain narrative of me, a story I’ve been told about who I am. Who knows anymore if it was me myself, my parents, teachers or the culturescape. What I know is the chatter it brings in my head, all this noise full of judgement, mind wandering, distraction, Mindfulness expands this field of awareness of what’s “truth”. It gives us observing capacity as separate to what is being observed. Suddenly we notice that “I am not my thoughts and emotions”, we learn the whole palette of different ways to be in relations with these thoughts and feelings. And we discover how to engage in the world without our narrative being constantly activated. We take responsibility for our own life and provide context for greater insights. Meditation is an inner shower, a social contract to always become more and never less than our True Self.
